Amazon sues multiple sellers again

Amazon takes action against counterfeit sellers again! Recently, some related sellers’ store products have been removed from the shelves by Amazon, and the accounts involved have also been banned by the platform.

As Amazon continues to launch major rectifications against counterfeit sellers on the platform, it is understood that Amazon has invested more than 1.2 billion US dollars to form a professional anti-counterfeiting team of 15,000 people. Earlier it was revealed that the team has prosecuted or reported more than 1,300 illegal sellers in the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and China.

I don’t know if you still remember this. At the end of 2022, relevant Chinese departments destroyed three counterfeiting dens based on information provided by Amazon, and seized a total of more than 240,000 counterfeit products in Guangdong, Jiangxi and other places.

It is said that the 240,000 counterfeit goods seized at that time infringed on the intellectual property rights of brands such as BMW, Porsche and Puma, including more than 130,000 counterfeit auto parts and counterfeit brand labels, nearly 80,000 counterfeit luxury goods and more than 30,000 counterfeit goods. Counterfeit clothing.

Along with the huge profits that counterfeit brands bring to sellers, this has also led to the emergence of related counterfeit sellers and counterfeit sales behaviors.

According to news on February 28, foreign media reported that Amazon’s Counterfeiting Crime Unit (CCU) recently cooperated with the BMW Group again to file relevant lawsuits against four sellers who sold counterfeit BMW auto parts.。

Notably, this is the first such lawsuit against Amazon in Spain.

According to the ruling, the four sellers' attempts to sell counterfeit BMW accessories, such as valve covers, badges and keychains, seriously violated the law (including infringement of the BMW Group's registered trademark) and Amazon's policies.

In order to follow the example of non-brand sellers on the platform, Amazon subsequently took proactive measures. These actions included closing the sales accounts of the defendant sellers, deleting products related to the case, and refunding affected customers.

This time, Amazon and BMW jointly prosecuted multiple counterfeit sellers and removed the products and banned the accounts of the defendant sellers. This also highlights Amazon’s determination to combat counterfeiting to ensure the authenticity and quality of products and protect customers from counterfeiting. Product harm.

Cross-border sellers who are not yet fully compliant must pay attention.

The direct focus on cross-border here also reminds all cross-border sellers that everyone must pay enough attention to Amazon's determination to combat counterfeiting and maintain a good ecosystem on the platform.

In addition to the Amazon platform, as Vietnam's new tax regulations are about to take effect, the risk of Shopee, the largest local e-commerce platform, locking in non-compliant sellers has greatly increased.

Recently, the Shopee Vietnam site issued an important announcement, which immediately caused panic among some Southeast Asian sellers. As Shopee requires sellers on this site to accurately and completely update their tax and identity through the seller channel before 23:59 on February 29, 2024 After submitting the information, if the seller fails to upload relevant information on time, the Shopee account balance will be locked.

This has also led to stricter requirements for Shopee mall sellers to modify information.

It is said that after the Shopee review is successful, the information cannot be modified through the system. When changes are needed, the seller has to contact department staff or customer service to explain the specific situation; the information change system is no more than once per month, and new information can only be changed after the Shopee review is successful. It will be displayed on the system. When there is no reasonable reason for the modification and the modification content is inconsistent, Shopee also reserves the right to refuse new or modified seller information.

As early as 2023, Vietnam's tax department has already verified the information of about 53,000 online sellers on multiple online shopping platforms. Shopee and Lazada, as the leading e-commerce platforms in the Vietnamese market, naturally have to actively respond to the tax department's policies. .

As cross-border e-commerce explodes in global markets, tax issues have become a key concern in major markets including Southeast Asia.

Multi-billion euro carbon tax bill coming

I have just talked about the compliance of cross-border overseas sellers, and now I will talk about the carbon tax compliance and rising costs faced by cross-border shipping companies.

Not surprisingly, as the EU's multi-billion-euro carbon tax bill accelerates, Asian shipping companies will once again be hit by rising operating costs.

The European Union Emissions Trading System (ETS), which takes effect in early 2024, has dealt the most serious blow to Asian container shipping companies including COSCO, Evergreen, Hyundai Merchant Marine, Ocean Network Express (ONE), and Anglo-Eastern Ship Management.

Why do you say that?

According to information obtained from relevant parties by Zhizhi Cross-Border, when these Asian shipping companies hand over the first batch of EU quotas in September 2025, it is not surprising that everyone is expected to face a cost of about 500 million euros to cover 40% of carbon emissions in calendar year 2024.

In addition, according to the analysis data of OceanScore (headquartered in Hamburg), a regulatory company specializing in ESG, in the next three years when the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) regulations are implemented, the cost figure of 500 million euros will rise significantly.

0ceanScore predicts that container shipping lines will have to give up 70% of their emissions allowances by 2025, rising to 100% by 2026, which means that by then, these shipping lines may have to pay more than

Therefore, in 2024 and in the future, issues such as tax compliance, intellectual property rights, and carbon tax increases are urgent for overseas sellers who have not accelerated their transformation and brand building. Otherwise, this will be directly related to life and death.
